Why SHIELD exists
Fleets don't lack data. The tracking shows how vehicles are driven, the cameras pick up distraction, the tacho flags infringements and the insurer holds the claims.
Yet the data sits in separate systems, waiting for someone to log in, work out what it means and act on it. SHIELD was built to join that data up and get it to the people who can do something about it, from the driver to the insurer.
Three people asking the same question
Steven Zwinkels, Ben Peters and Richard Bird founded SHIELD in 2024, with more than 30 years in transport, technology and insurance between them. Each had seen the same problem from a different side.
Steven watched operators invest in more and more technology, yet still lose hours pulling it together and getting what it showed to their drivers. Ben saw it from insurance: chasing incident details, managing claims and trying to explain to insurers why a fleet's risk should improve at renewal. Richard spent 12 years helping operators bring in technology and take out manual work.
All three kept coming back to one question: why did it all have to be so complicated?

Has worked in telematics and motor insurance, where he saw how hard it is to get incident details to the insurer.

Spent 12 years at a leading transport management system (TMS) provider, working with operators to bring in technology and take out manual work.

What SHIELD stands for
The name says what SHIELD is for: protecting drivers, businesses and other road users, while helping operators protect themselves from costs that otherwise feel unavoidable.
SHIELD is a Silver Associate member of the Road Haulage Association.
